The holiday season is officially here and during this magical time of year it is important to remember those not as fortunate as ourselves, and to give back to your community. The Routt County United Way’s Holiday Exchange Market begins on December 15th and this program assists families and individuals in Routt County who are struggling and having a hard time at this time of year by providing them holiday gifts and food.
Last year’s Holiday Market Exchange helped over 164 families who were facing hardships over the holiday season. This program gives everyone the opportunity to help out either by donating items such as new toys, winter clothing, food cards, money or volunteering their time. Those wishing to donate are asked to either volunteer two hours of their time in the community or by making a donation of $10 to the Holiday Exchange Market. This helps to assure that everyone who is participating is making this program a big success. To volunteer or to donate gifts please visit Holiday Exchange.
Invited families are referred by a Routt County Health and Human service agency and they come and “shop” at the market. Each person’s name, sex, and age is individually recorded for shopping. Then one or two members of each family is able to come in and shop for a few needed items for their family including gloves, snow clothes and winter boots. Every family is given a grocery gift card to shop for free food. Just remember even a small donation can help to make someone else’s holiday season a little brighter!
