The holiday season is upon us and what better gift to give a young child then the gift of literacy. All children in Steamboat Springs from birth to the age of 5 are eligible to be enrolled in this important program. Early literacy is very important, and statistics have shown that nearly 40% of children are not ready kindergarten level literacy.

Imagination Library was introduced to Routt County by the Routt County United Way’s leadership giving group Women United. How the program works is enrolled children will receive 60 books that are age appropriate over a 5-year course period. Children will receive 1 book a month. The books children receive have been hand picked by a panel of literacy professionals that is a part of the Dollywood Foundation. There are some bilingual books included.

This is an amazing opportunity to build your child’s library and help prepare him or her for school and their future. Research has shown that children who have received the Imagination Library have families that read to them between 66% and 75% more! This is great family bonding time and helps a child to use their imagination and develop a love of reading.
